Huh?

This ranks right up there as the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard of. Temp workers employed through Allied Forces/Labor Express by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union to picket Wal-Mart. They’re being paid $6 an hour, with no benefits to protest the working conditions inside the new Wal-Mart grocery store in Henderson, NV.

What would actually make more sense, is for these guys to unionize and picket the UFCW for unfair wages and no benefits and having to work (read: carry their picket signs) with no shade. Oh, and while they’re at it, they should probably ask for a Port-O-Let as well since they have to cross the street to use the restroom. I’ve been at the intersection of Stephanie Street and American Pacific Drive in Henderson and having to cross that street to use the bathroom would put OSHA into a twist.

What kind of message are Allied Forces/Labor Express and UFCW sending here? “Watch out Wal-Mart or we’ll hire some low wage marks to picket you?” Oooooh. I’m certain Big Sam’s knees are knocking in the middle of his eternal rest. With Wal-Mart’s average rate of pay in the Las Vegas area being $10.17, these temps would be better off going inside the store they are picketing to get an application. They would get more money, benefits, and an air conditioned work environment (it’s 104 outside).
